In March, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced a revamp of the Form I-9 used to document employees' legal right to work in the United States. Until an official announcement is made, employers are required to continue using the current I-9 with an expiration date of 8/31/2012.

The new I-9 will expand to three pages (including a list of acceptable documents) and will provide spaces for the employee's e-mail address and telephone number. In addition, the form will contain data fields to collect the foreign passport number and country of issuance, if the employee uses his or her I-94 and foreign passport for work authorization.

Personnel Concepts will continue to monitor developments and advise you when the new Form I-9 has been approved and should be used.
