Due to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, government forms must be submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for approval and then resubmitted every three years.

The Department of Labor (DOL) forms for the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) all expired this past Saturday, Feb. 28, after their three-year approval period, but OMB moved swiftly to grant them a 30-day extension until March 31.

OMB is evidently advising companies to continue using the 2012 (expiring 2015) forms until new forms are approved. Meanwhile, the office is seeking public commentary on the forms until March 27, which can be sent by email to OIRA_submission@omb.eop.gov.
